A few weeks ago, I had to go to the doctor.
In the visit summary, I noticed her notes from the last few years, and something about them hit me.

Patient Summary June 17 July 7, 2021 She is pleasant and cooperative. BP 88/61 yes being married to you I was so pleasant and cooperative until I wasn’t and then February 16, 2023 She is alert. Mental status is at baseline. BP 104/70 you left me and I had to unravel myself from all the ways I was tied to you all the ways you had tied me down down down I seemed normal but I couldn’t feel a thing they can’t detect when your spirit is broken June 4, 2025 Pleasant female in no acute distress. BP 100/68 I have no acute distress because I am no longer living with someone who is always distressed someone who blames me instead of sharing with me who mocks my insecurities instead of being my partner who lords his distress over me like it’s mine to fix instead of doing the work to heal it
