Poetry by Shiny✨🩵 "My Last Name"
Dear Readers, ♥️
Thank you all for reading, and for your notes about my poems.
While writing my return address this week, I thought of this one.
Love,
Shiny ✨
My Last Name June 11 Ask me about my last name. Everyone does. Didn’t you want to change it? Don’t you miss your old name? Doesn’t it remind you of him? Aren’t you worried? I am the one who changed it so many years ago. I am the one who sat in the social security office. These are my names. So I’ll use them whenever and however I want. It depends on where I am. Who I’m with. How I feel that day. I did a lot with his. Made it a household sales name. Built and then divided an empire. I did a lot with mine. Earned two degrees. Taught everyone to spell and pronounce it. Got a nickname to keep. They’re both mine. So, I take them on and off like layers. I can take them or leave them. That’s why I’ll never lose Shiny. In me since the very beginning. The real me at the core.
